Simon Hanna

Simon graduated from East 15 in London and began his career alongside Judi Dench and Donald Sinden in the BBC’s The Hound of The Baskervilles. His television credits include Dalziel & Pascoe, The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper, The Bill, Coronation Street, The Last Salute, Emmerdale and Family Affairs. Theatrical work includes Death And The Maiden, Oedipus Rex, Blue Remembered Hills, Twelfth Night, 12 Angry Men, The Crucible, Arms And The Man, Journey’s End and The Importance Of Being Ernest. Simon has worked at the Lantern previously in Improbable Fiction, A Christmas Carol, The Dumb Waiter, The Haunting and The Cherry Orchard. He has previous experience teaching under-privileged children in both Ukraine and Uzbekistan and can confidently order 17 vodkas in Russian.

Tim Baron has acted loads, just loads with the DGP but still feels a bit giddy to be part of such an amazing cast. He's also written a few bits and bobs [e.g. "Herald" and "A Tale told By An Idiot"New Writing Festival]. He hopes to do more with the DGP, but knows that if it doesn't work out, he'll always have Parris.

Daniel Smith

In September, Danny graduated from The University of Lincoln with First Class Honours in Drama. Prior to his work with DGP he has played Antonio in The Merchant of Venice, Happy in an extract from The Death of a Salesman, and Vladimir in Waiting For Godot. Since university he has continued his work with the theatre company he co-founded, Full Frontal. With his company, he wrote, marketed, and played the lead in their original farce, The Magpie and The Yorkshireman at Frequency Festival in Lincoln.

Annie Herbert

Annie started acting in 2010 perfoming at The Crucible theatre in The Laramie Project and later as part of Sheffield Peoples Theatre in 20 Tiny Plays and Sheffield Mysteries. After attending Carney Academy, Annie has appeared in two Christmas plays for the DGP - A Kick in the Baubles, Comfort and Joy - and acted in, stage managed and directed other productions and New Writing Festivals at the Lantern theatre, of which she is also an active Board member.

Phil Claxton

Phil has been with the DGP for three years and has performed in five main plays, cornering the market as a manservant/butler. He also likes to get involved with the set building and other backstage duties.

Emma Parr

Emma started acting at the Just 4 U theatre company in Wakefield, performing in musicals and pantomimes from 2001 to 2004. She wrote, produced and directed a modern take on 'A Christmas Carol', involving 200 primary school children at the Montgomery Theatre. Emma has performed in several Christmas productions with the Dily's Guite Players.

Elliot Dale-Hughes

Elliott has been in student films by Barney Thomas of Sheffield Hallam University and has been a guest on 'The Cool Beans Television Show' where he acted and helped write a sketch for the show. 'Cool Beans' went on to be broadcast on national television. 'Don't Dress for Dinner' will be Elliott's first theatrical performance. He has completely thrown himself into the work, acting confidently in rehearsals and is looking forward to the production.

Briony Harrison

Briony is a Broadcast Journalism graduate who is more likely to be found writing copy than on the stage. She’s had parts in several productions including the role of Mabel in the musical Mack & Mabel but hasn’t been involved in theatre for a number of years. She only recently moved to Sheffield and is thrilled to have the opportunity to break her acting hiatus by joining the Dilys Guite players in their production of Don’t Dress for Dinner earlier this year and now A Christmas Carol.

Simon Naylor

Simon returns to The Lantern having played in 'An Ideal Husband', ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ as well as featuring in ‘The Crucible’ and ‘The New Writing Festival’ in previous years. Acting only since 2013, Simon took a career break in June 2014 from a full time job as a restaurant manager to seek paid acting work. After featuring in short films, music videos, commercials, TV and film support roles and theatre parts, acting has settled into his life as a wonderful and rewarding interest, alongside his day job. The highlight of his career so far has been the chance to throw a petrol bomb across the Peace Gardens in the Sheffield People’s Theatre production ‘Camelot: The Shining City’. An incendiary performance in many ways indeed.

Alex Wilson

Alex has been a member for two years now. His previous plays include Cranford At Christmas, Foolish Mortals, and An Ideal Husband. He is now appearing in The Merry Wives of Windsor and A Christmas Carol. He is also a member of Rotherham Rep and has and acted in plays such Look Back in Anger, The Canterbury Tales, Par for the Course and A Midsummers Nights Dream. He is a former member of Sheffield Youth Theatre.

Carolyn is new to Sheffield, and new to the DG Players (who have been most welcoming) returning to the stage after a maternity leave of 16 years! She has played Hermia in Midsummer Night's Dream, Lady Macduff in Macbeth, and the Courtesan in Comedy of Errors, for an 'Outdoor Shakespeare' company in Buckinghamshire. In her youth she enjoyed the lead in Cinderella, The Musical, and Troppo in Salad Days.

Rose is enjoying her second time performing with the DGP, having appeared as Kathy in Comfort and Joy at the end of last year. Rose adds Jacqueline to her repertoire of notably angry characters, having also played Giuseppe Zangara in Assassins (TwoSquared Productions) , Gretchen in Boeing-Boeing (Between Shifts Theatre), and in the chorus of politicised factory workers in Made in Dagenham (STOS).

David is currently rehearsing for A Christmas Carol at the Lantern Theatre. This will be his first production at this Theatre, however this is not his first acting role. He has been dipping in and out of Theatre work at The Crucible and extra/walk on TV roles since the 90s, credits include Celebrity Ghost Stories, Last Tango in Halifax and Heartbeat. Sheffield born and bred, his hobbies include rock music and reading, he also enjoys The Marvel Cinematic Universe and John Wayne.

Kevin Jackson

Kevin began acting in 2010 performing The Laramie Project at the Crucible Summer School. He immediately knew acting was for him and joined Carney Academy of Performing Arts, when it was created in 2010 here at the Lantern..


Kevin has performed with The DGP in Shakespeare: Method In The Madness, Love Labours Lost, Gasping, Seasons Greetings and The Cherry Orchard. As part of the Crucible's Sheffield People's Theatre he has appeared in Lives In Art and Sheffield Mysteries. His directing work includes the New Writing Festivals, Straight and Narrow (assistant), Black Comedy, A Kick In The Baubles, Blithe Spirit, Comfort And Joy and the 2017 festive production - A Christmas Carol here at the Lantern.


Kevin devotes much of his own time to his role as Chair of the DGP charity.

Harry Rowbotham

Having trained as a lighting and sound technician in Leicester, Harry worked on projects in a range of venues including the Century Theatre and Curve Studio's. After Joining the Lantern Theatre in 2013, Harry became the Lantern’s Technical Director and has overseen a large variety of productions on the Lantern Stage, including The Haunting, Blithe Spirit, Midsummer Night's Dream and, more recently, A Christmas Carol - which also represented Harry's directing debut.

Barry graduated from studying acting in 2011. He has since gone in to the acting profession. He has been a member of the DGP since 2010 and has performed in many productions at the Lantern. He recently made his debut as an Assistant Director and Mentor.
