Alison, our Creative Director, takes over the blog today to ask for your help
I hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe and well.
Almost a year since the first lockdown and there is so much we are all looking forward to, like being back at the theatre. In the meantime we are continuing with the next stage of our Lantern Online project.
Our first filmed performance was on 31st October 2020 with the latest one being released on the 31st December, all of them new and all written, directed and performed by DGP members. Filming has been a new experience for most of us and of course all done following Government guidelines.
The next two Lantern Online offerings will be available to view soon and remote rehearsals are underway on several others. Thanks to everyone who has submitted a piece so far and we currently have enough material to take us through to July, as we plan to release a minimum of one a month on YouTube. So keep watching!
We’ve got two plays we are casting now:
Poe’s Lighthouse by Nick Tate
Two actors: one any age or gender, one older male
Rejection, Rejection, Rejection by Jack Hewitt
One actor: any age or gender
We need directors for both (don’t panic, you’ll have a creative team buddy to help you!).
Editing
What we need desperately are people who can, or would like to learn, how to edit film. You will need some software as you will be working on the material remotely. There's plenty that are free for you to use. It doesn't need to be anything advanced to make some great looking videos.
If you would like to be involved in these or any upcoming plays please let us know, if you’ve already expressed an interest, tell us again, sometimes we need nagging! Our email address is creative@lanterntheatre.org.uk
If you’re a writer and want to submit something:
We are looking for monologues or duologues which can be filmed under current restrictions, short pieces at first, but we are hoping to build up to pieces lasting 10-15 minutes. We are looking at two phases for this, so please submit by:
The end of March for phase 1
The end of April for phase 2
Please email your submissions to the Creative Team and don’t forget to click here to check our guidelines regarding our new writing programmes: creative@lanterntheatre.org.uk
The DGP Board and Creative Team are very grateful for your continued support and want to thank everyone who has taken the time to be either actively involved in the Lantern Online project or by watching. We have also been grateful for the numerous donations made by audience members, this is very much appreciated. Of course, as we all are aware, it is a very difficult time for the creative industries and donations received will all help to keep the theatre ticking over until we are all able to return and for plays to be produced on stage once again.
If you have any queries in the meantime, please do not hesitate to ask a member of the Creative Team. The five of us (Alison, Cein, Danny, James and Matt) meet (remotely) on a regular basis so please do not hesitate to contact us. The easiest way to get in touch is by email: creative@lanterntheatre.org.uk
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best wishes,
Alison Glentworth
DGP Board/Creative Director on behalf of the Creative Team
