DGP Youth: SHEFF SHAKES
The Dilys Guite Players have expanded their membership to young people between the ages of 11 and 16 with the formation of the DGP Youth Group SHEFF SHAKES.
Based at the historic Lantern Theatre in Nether Edge, home of the DGP, we are a Shakespeare based inclusive program.
Our main aims are to develop young people’s love of theatre and acting skills by putting on exciting performances with lighting, sound, costumes and sets; making full use of the amazing theatre facilities that DGP has access to in the Lantern Theatre.
“All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players”
This is one the most famous phrases to emerge from Shakespeare’s lightest of comedies; As You Like It. DGP Youth Theatre group (aka Sheff Shakes) are bringing this beguiling story of love and mistaken identity to life on the stage of the enchanting Lantern Theatre in March 2020.
You can join DGP Youth Theatre for a minimal fee of £15 each year. Everyone who ultimately joins, will take part in the production.
Membership comes with all the benefits of adult members such as discounts on shows, purchases from the bar (obviously we’re talking soft drinks and confectionary, but parents will benefit as well when attending events with their DGP Youth family member) plus access to special members events.
Spearheading the production is Ann O’Connell who has 30 years of experience in community theatre producing, directing and acting. She has previously run an after school program in the British Virgin Islands and has already produced 3 successful shows with DGP Youth: Hamlet, Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth.
DGP Youth Group looks to encourage young people in fulfilling their potential for minimal cost and having a great time along the way, developing confidence and to foster a life long love
of the theatre.
Keep looking out as well, in the new year, for details on regarding a new group relating to writing, assistant directors, set and costume designers, budding sound and lighting technicians and anyone who wants to be involved in the backstage aspect of productions.
