Sam's Blog Bright sunny day, though freezing! Feels great as we enter the warmth of the Lantern to hear Matt taking bookings for Order.! Having seen the Look North piece on TV the people of Sheffield and beyond are now inspired to come and visit the theatre and see the play. In fact the website took over 27,000 hits post airing.. I think the Lantern is on the map! I love working with new writing. One reason is that you become a part of the script development, this allows you to gain real ownership of the character. Having the writer in rehearsals means you have instant insight into the world they want you to inhabit. (what I wouldn't give for a few moments with Mr Shakespeare!)It is particularly delightful when you have someone like Martin who is in no way precious about the material. He edits very quickly, and when we hit a trouble spot in scene four he's back with rewrites within half an hour! A week apart now to read, research and learn the lines. I don't want to leave rehearsals but I look forward to our intensive process and to see what develops in the meantime. I also hope Sheffield warms up before I return.(Oh and I got my tax in on time! Was easier to swallow with a glass of Red wine!) |
